SEEDS to Host National Expert on Racial and Gender Achievement Gaps
Scientists and Engineers Expanding Diversity and Success (SEEDS) will host Valerie Purdie-Vaughns, a nationally recognized expert on racial and gender achievement gaps in academic and corporate institutions. The Columbia University researcher will present “Unconscious Bias in the 21st Century and Its Impact on Diversity and Inclusiveness” at two seminars on November 17 and 18. | more

Second Dolphins Cycling Challenge Doubles Ridership to Raise Money for Sylvester
Some 860 cyclists, including more than 160 children and 21 cancer survivors, rode various events across three counties to take part in the Second Annual Dolphins Cycling Challenge on November 5 and 6 to raise money for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. | more

Global Entrepreneurship Week Celebrates Innovation
Universities and organizations from more than 100 countries will celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, from November 14-18. The University of Miami’s Launch Pad will celebrate the week with more than 20 events involving hundreds of entrepreneurs in technology, fashion, entertainment, law, the sciences, trade, and more. Events will include the popular Elevator Pitch Contest Finale and a talk by Internet mogul J.R. Ridinger, among others. | more

Jan Hochstim, Longtime UM Architecture Professor, Passes Away
Jan Hochstim, a longtime professor at the University of Miami’s School of Architecture who was well known to generations of students for his exacting standards as a historian of the modern movement, passed away on November 5. He was 80. | more

Ring Theatre Continues Exciting Season with ‘Fifty*Four*Forever’
The Department of Theatre Arts continues its exciting season with the musical Fifty*Four*Forever, on stage through November 19. It was conceived and directed by nine-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune, who has also received eight Drama Desk Awards, the 2003 Presidential National Medal of Arts, and his own star on Hollywood’s legendary Walk of Fame. Written by Mark Saltzman, the musical play takes place in New York City, where Studio 54 becomes a magical disco that draws everyone into its orbit. | more

    The University of Miami community celebrated the completion of “The U: Dynamic History, Vibrant Traditions,” a 108-foot-long mural that chronicles the institution’s 85-year history, on November 8.
