Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Student Activities Center

With more than 200 people in attendance, the University of Miami held a ceremonial groundbreaking on October 28 for its Student Activities Center. The state-of-the-art, 119,000-square-foot complex will include gathering places, programming space, a student organizations suite, retail outlets, and a new Rathskeller when it is completed in 2013. | more

DOE Grant Benefits UM Engineering Students and Local Manufacturers
A $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy will help University of Miami College of Engineering students assist small and medium-sized local manufacturers in managing their energy requirements, reducing waste, and increasing productivity associated with manufacturing processes. The five-year grant was awarded to the University of Miami Industrial Assessment Center. | more

Celebrate ’Canes Spirit Day on November 4; Homecoming Gets Under Way this Week
The Department of Auxiliary Services and its Division of Logo Licensing are organizing ’Canes Spirit Day, a University-wide promotion that encourages faculty, staff, alumni, and University of Miami supporters to wear orange and green on Friday, November 4 in celebration of the institution’s traditions and excellence. Meanwhile, Homecoming festivities get under way this week.

Mural Chronicles UM’s History
Longer than an NBA basketball court and composed of more than 160 photographs, “The U: Dynamic History, Vibrant Traditions” chronicles UM’s history and the tenures of UM presidents from Bowman Foster Ashe to Donna E. Shalala. | more

    Food-Filled Day
    Students sample one of the products on sale by local vendors at the Well 'Canes Farmers' Market on October 24. The market, typically held on Wednesdays on the Foote University Green, was part of Food Day events organized by the University of Miami's Office of Civic and Community Engagement. The day was part of a movement across the country to promote a healthy, affordable, and equitable food system. Food Day activities on the UM campus included a food fair, a food and agriculture panel discussion, and screenings of food justice movies. | more
