Venice Still Sinking, Study Confirms
Although previous studies suggested that Venice, Italy, has stabilized, new measurements indicate that the historic city continues to slowly sink and even to tilt slightly to the east. That’s the conclusion of a team of researchers from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, and an Italian company that measures ground deformation. | more

School of Education and Human Development’s New Name Reflects Academic Mission
In a move to more accurately reflect its academic programs and mission, the School of Education has changed its name to the School of Education and Human Development. The switch, according to Dean Isaac Prilleltensky, will also give a boost to student recruitment and marketing. | more

Launch Pad Entrepreneurs Named Finalists in Technology Leaders of the Year Award
Launch Pad entrepreneurs have swept the three finalist nominations in the “Technology Student Entrepreneur” category in this year’s Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Annual Technology Leaders of the Year Awards. Johnson, Williams Named Associated Press All-Americans

    Johnnetta Cole Discusses Her Love Affair with Art
    Intensely knowledgeable, compelling, and at times funny, Johnnetta Cole, director of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, shared her life’s passion with a University of Miami audience of about 200 on March 23. Her lecture, titled “My Love Affair with Art,” was presented by the University of Miami Center for the Humanities and was part of UM’s Unity in Diversity, a semester-long series marking the 50th anniversary of desegregation at the institution. | more
