Bascom Palmer Eye Institute again ranked nation’s leading eye hospital
For the seventh year in a row, the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has been named the No. 1 hospital in the country for ophthalmology in U.S.News & World Report’s 2010-11 Best Hospitals annual survey. Three other specialties at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center were also ranked among the nation’s best. | more

Frost School of Music launches new website
After an extensive development and testing phase, the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music has launched its redesigned website, which now features a variety of new and enhanced features, such as complete listings of concerts, master classes, and recitals at all of the school’s performance venues; expanded faculty profiles; and videos of students sharing their academic and musical experiences. | more

    Gubernatorial visit
    After visits to Panama City and Tampa Bay, where he discussed matters related to the Gulf oil spill, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist made a stop at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science last Wednesday, where the U.S. Senate hopeful joined a group of UM scientists and other lawmakers in a roundtable discussion on the environmental disaster’s impact on the state’s key industries and ecosystems.     Sebastian takes flight
    Those magnificent University of Miami students in their flying machine must have felt like the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, as they perched their Ibis-inspired plane on the edge of a 30-foot deck at Bayfront Park in Miami on July 10, hoping their winged wonder would soar high and long. To their delight, it did, flying a distance of 48 feet before splashing down safely, an effort that was good enough to win second place in the Red Bull Flugtag Miami. | more
