Scientists Create Method for Accurately Counting Reef Fish
The task of accurately counting reef fish has stumped scientists for years. Now, a team of University of Miami marine biologists and other researchers has come up with a method that increases the effectiveness of reef-monitoring techniques, making it possible to determine management strategies best suited to ensure the long-term sustainability of reef resources. | more

UM Diver Brittany Viola Wins Her Second NCAA National Title
Senior Brittany Viola concluded one of the most historic diving careers in University of Miami history last Saturday night, claiming her second NCAA National Championship on the 10-meter platform with a finals score of 354.25 on the last day of the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, held at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center at the University of Texas at Austin. | more

The University is streamlining the investment options available for faculty and staff in the 403(b) plans to comply with IRS regulations and to make investments easier for participants to manage. Employees are encouraged to meet with a Fidelity representative for assistance with the transition and any forms that may be required. Participants who wish to invest in TIAA-CREF annuities are encouraged to meet with a TIAA-CREF representative. Webcasts and information sessions continue through April 15. | more

    An Autograph Worth Collecting
    University of Miami employees who are diehard baseball fans got the chance to experience one of the sport’s most popular events—an autograph session with one of the local legends of the game—when former Miami Hurricanes and former Florida Marlins pitcher Alex Fernandez signed baseball cards, hats, T-shirts, balls, and whatever else was on hand as part of a ticket distribution outing for the upcoming UM Family Night with the Marlins.
